Mumbai: Cricket is called as the gentlemans game but on field there have been numerous occasions when players have confronted each other. Off the field there have been more such incidents.
Currently Mumbai Ranji player Suryakumar Yadav has been sent a show cause notice by the MCA for retweeting a post on Twitter that questioned his omission from the team for the Inter-state T20 tournament.
Trouble seems to be Suryakumars second name.
Once, while being the under-25 captain of Mumbai, he got into a fist fight with his teammate Siddesh Lad and later vented his anger by breaking the glass wall in the MCA's BKC facility. Later he quit as Mumbai captain midway through the 2014-15 season.
The culture of a captain abusing his teammates has been true of all previous Mumbai captains.
Many years back Amol Muzumdar was dropped from the team that was invited by Western Australia. He turned up at the Mumbai airport to join the team but the team manager turned him away saying that he had just received information of the captain's suspension.
Suryakumar Yadav has been playing well for the KKR in the IPL season, his exploits in the Ranji season have been decent.
Now it is all about how MCA grooms its players and how players do not succumb to tempramental issues there by jeopardizing their career. Though Mumbai cricketers were known as “Khadoos” on the field, the new generations seems to have taken it literally.
