The police academy ground at the staff headquarters will soon turn into a multipurpose sports arena.

The Government Railway Police (GRP), Mumbai, is planning to make an international-level football stadium. Not only that, but they are also planning to make a synthetic track with separate areas for javelin, shot put, and long jump. They are going to build a swimming pool on 35 acres of ground that is generally used for police training and recruitment.

The objective of this project is to promote high-level sporting activities. They are also aiming to create awareness of good physical health on the premises.

An official, while confirming the same, said to the media that all sports courts are proposed as per the Sports Authority of India (SAI) standard. The activities will prove beneficial for the end-user.

According to the design, a 400 m synthetic track having IAAF standards will be built. A FIFA-approved 110 m X 64 m football ground will also be constructed with artificial turf, he added.

Reportedly, the approximate cost of the project is around Rs 8.5 crores, and the Mumbai Railway Police has made an invitation Request For Proposal (RFP). They have invited REP from reputable, competent, and professional contractors for the sports ground.

On Eastern Express Highway near Ghatkopar, the Railway Police is also planning to begin a petrol pump along with Bharat Petroleum, and it will help them generate revenue.
