Nisha Bais fired five goals in a row to lead Madhya Pradesh into the women’s semi-finals, on an eventful day of hat-tricks, in the National Inclusion Cup Championship for underprivileged children, a CSR initiative of Sony Pictures Network India, organised by Slum Soccer, at the Andheri Sports Complex on Thursday.

MP, who led 3-2 at half-time, registered an emphatic 6-3 win over Andhra Pradesh after dominating the second half following Nisha’s individual brilliance. R. Shobha scored all three goals for AP including two in the first-half. In the semi-finals, MP will take on West Bengal who overcame Tamil Nadu 8-2.

“Being a Thakur, we girls are not encouraged to play football,” revealed 19-year-old Nisha of Chhinwada, near Jabalpur, who fired 33 goals in her maiden Slum Soccer tournament in Nagpur two years back. “But my dad, who is a police inspector, and family give me all the support.”

Puja scored four goals including a hat-trick to lead Assam to a convincing 7-2 win over Haryana. Assam will play Jharkhand in the second semi-final after the latter beat Orissa 6-3.

Kerala beat Delhi 4-2 in a tight men’s quarter-final encounter after R. Gunaalan opened the scoring and M. Mukesh netted a hat-trick. In the semi-finals, Kerala will face Vidarbha who beat Punjab 7-4 with Kartik netting the day’s fourth hat-trick for the winners. Telangana will play Tamil Nadu in the other semi-final after the latter, who trailed 0-1 at half-time, recovered to beat Karnataka 4-2 in an exciting tie.
