Mumbai University's Kirti Vijay Bhoite earned a silver medal in the 200m final of the Khelo India University Games. Bhoite was bested by India's fastest woman Dutee Chand, who won her second gold of the Khelo India University Games. Dutee Chand bagged the top honours in the 200m final on Sunday, March 2.

Bhoite, a student of Mumbai University settled for silver with a timing of 24.98 seconds while Deepali Mahapatra from Utkal University won the bronze, clocking 25.19 seconds. Chand won the tournament with a timing of 23.66 seconds while representing Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology.

"It feels very good to win the 200m gold. In 100m, it's difficult to gauge when to run in full throttle and when to relax a little bit, but in 200m, it's easier to understand when to run in full speed and when to ease out. However, a runner has to exert much more in a 200m race," Dutee told India Today after her win.

Chand also added that the Khelo India University Games which was held in Odisha was a good tournament for her state. She added that the tournament was organised like an Asian Games with the athletes receiving best services.

"The schedule of all events was strictly followed and the athletes were given ample rest as well. So, the competition was conducted very well and I would like to thank the Indian government and state government for organising the event," she said.

Earlier, two Mumbai University students bagged four medals in the ongoing Khelo India University Games (KIUG) in Odisha. Interestingly, both the winners were twin sisters from Mumbai, Jyoti Patil and Aarti Patil.

On the opening day of the swimming events at the KIUG on February 24, the twin sisters ended up on the podium in the 200m breaststroke. While Jyoti Patil won a gold medal, Aarti Patil bagged a bronze medal in the swimming event.
