On the occasion of the birth centenary of the legendary Vinoo Mankad at the Cricket Club of India yesterday. On this occasion, another legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar relived those days under Vinoo Mankad who was also his coach at St Xavier's College.
It was an evening of nostalgia as the entire Mankad family was present.
Present along with the Mankad family was Madhav Mantri, Karsan Ghavi, Salim Durrani, Padmakar Shivalkar, Yujervendra Singh Bilka, Milind Wagle and others.
Vinoo Mankad, full name Mulvantrai Himmatlal Mankad, is best known for his world record setting opening partnership of 413 runs, with Pankaj Roy, in 1956, a record that stood for 52 years. He played an important role in that era when Indian cricket was on the cusp of world recognition.
