Maha govt. to honour top sport stars with Shiv Chhatrapati Award

The Shiv Chhatrapati Rajya Puraskar is revered as the highest level of award in the field of sports in Maharashtra. The winners of the year 2018/19 will be honoured by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday, February 22. The award ceremony will be held at the Gateway of India at 5:00 pm.

The list of winners was declared at Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Wankhede Stadium on February 18. The announcement was made by State Sports Minister, Sunil Kedar and Minister of State for Sports, Aditi Tatkare. Alongside, the athletes from Maharashtra who have won in the Khelo India Youth Games will also be honoured at the Gateway of India.

"Sports helps a person develop a hunger for success. CM and Deputy CM have also asked us to make optimum use of the resources for the development of sports,"  said Sunil Kedar, Maharashtra Sports Minister. He also said that the Uddhav Thackeray-led government is looking to boost sports in the state and has been taking the initiative to do the same.

Meanwhile, Aditi Tatkare, the Minister for State for Sports spoke about the Go Girl Go program by Maharashtra government. Tatkare said,

"It is a huge boost for Sports that CM and Deputy CM are felicitating the winners personally. This is the first time Maharashtra is honouring the winners of the Khelo India Youth Games. We hope more girls play and so we have started the Go Girl Go initiative.

"The male sportspersons have a prolonged career in this country. We want the same for a female sportsperson," she added.

Meanwhile, the awards have been given to athletes in five categories and 63 honours have been awarded.
