In a recently held event, Cdr Kehar Singh, Secretary of Mumbai Hockey Association had called for fresh elections and appealed all the hockey players and clubs affiliated with the MHA to promote hockey after Charity Commission rejected the ‘Change Report’ by The Mumbai Hockey Association Limited on March 17.

TMHAL had filed a change report before the commission claiming to be the apex body as the Mumbai Hockey Association. But the commission had rejected the claim by stating that TMHAL was governed under the Company Act whereas MHA has been registered under Society Registration Act and Maharashtra Public Trust Act on November 23, 2005.

Commenting on this, Cdr Kehar Singh said this order was a victory for the players and the clubs for the city of Mumbai. “I will call for fresh elections and have already implemented of the National Sports Code, 2011. I cannot contest elections as I am above the age limit but in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the game in the city, a proper elected body should be in place to govern the sport.”

The commission in its order had stated, “If The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd and Mumbai Hockey Association is one and the same, then Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd which is registered under the Company Act will have to be merged and dissolved into a Trust. But TMHAL is still in existence and hence both associations are one and the same were not justifiable.”

Kehar Singh said that their demand is to allow them to use the Mahindra Stadium and let them conduct leagues/tournaments for schools, colleges, clubs and national level events.
