Mumbai's 'Pickleball' players shine in the US

‘Pickleball’ is catching up in popularity slowly and steadily. On Monday, in the ‘Gamma Pickleball Classic’ competition held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, three Mumbaikars made the country really proud by winning.

Mumbai's 'Pickleballers'

Samit Koregaonkar and Sachin Pathare won gold in the doubles competition while Ravi Shetty won silver in the open category.


How the game progressed

This competition was organised by the ‘USA Pickleball Association’ (USAPA).

Ravi Shetty teamed up with Gerald Alvarado in the open doubles category. They lost to Paul Olin and Josh Ellenbogen 5-11, 11-6, 14-16, in the finals. After going a set down, Ravi and Gerald made a comeback in the second set but an injury prevented them from winning the game. They had to settle for second place.


Pickleball

This racquet sport which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table-tennis is growing popular in Mumbai and players are making a mark on the international stage.
