The Asian chess championship for the blind is currently on at the Manipal University, Udupi. Vaishali Salavkar, Swapnil Shah, Shirish Patil and Sachin Waghmare from mumbai are in the fray.

Vaishali Salavkar(1431) lost to Yudhajeet De(1725) in a hotly contested game in 38 moves in the fourth round. Earlier Vaishali had beaten Thaneite Shirih Patil in the third round. She will take on K Marimuthu(1559) on board no 7.

Swapnil Shah(1705) won his game easily in just 15 moves beating Shirish Patil(1681). Swapnil will take on fellow mumbaikar Sachin Waghmare(1600) in the next round on board no 5.

India’s Kishan Gangolli leads the pack with 4 points followed by five players on 3 points.

After 4 round: Swapnil Shah- 2 1/2 points, Vaishali Salavkar- 2 points, Sachin Waghmare- 2 points, Shirish Patil- 1 point.
