India’s Premier Cyclothon, the Saksham Cyclothon Mumbai 2018 an initiative by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India along with Oil & Gas PSUs to make citizens of Mumbai aware of the conservation and effective utilization of petroleum products. This initiative will be held on February 25, 2018.

The Cyclothon is planned to inspire Mumbaikars to lead a healthier lifestyle, to contribute to a better environment and for awareness on fuel conservation by promoting the use of cycles for short distances which will also help in creating a greener environment and better health conditions. The registrations will open today and the last date for registrations is on February 20, 2018.

The key highlight of the event are six categories – 58 km Elite Men, 38 km Elite Women, 28 km Amateur MTB and Hybrid for Men & Women, Amateur MTB Road Bike Men and Women and 8 km Green Ride. There will be free entries for Green Ride participants whereas Amateurs will be charged ₹700. More than 5000 cyclists are likely to take part in the inaugural edition of the Saksham Cyclothon Mumbai 2018. Age group for participation is 12 years+ for Green Ride and 15 years+ for Amateurs.

The 58km Elite Men will flag off at 6:30 am, 38 km Elite Women at 6:40 am, Amateur Men & Women at 7:30 am and 8 km Green Ride at 8:00 am. All the categories will commence at P.J. Hindu Gymkhana and Wilson Gymkhana Grounds, Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, Mumbai.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. R K Ahuja, Director Project Secretariat, PCRA highlighted about this initiative and requested to use cycle in their daily life for short distances like the nearby market, school, workplace etc. "This will not only will keep us fit & creating cleaner environment but will also conserve fuel for our future generation.”

To encourage keen cyclists to register and enhance their experience for the final day, four Promo Rides have been organized across different locations of the maximum city. The overall prize money across various categories for the inaugural edition of Saksham Cyclothon Mumbai is ₹10 lakh along with many exciting prizes.
