On Thursday, October 28, South Africa's wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock issued an apology on Twitter for his teammates and fans after he refused to take the knee in the recent ICC men's T20 World Cup match against West Indies on Tuesday, October 26, .

In his statement, the cricketer said that he did not mean to 'disrespect anyone by not playing against the West Indies team and added that he is sorry for all the hurt, confusion, and anger caused. He wrote that the Black Lives Movement matter to him as even he comes from a mixed-race family, adding that his half-sisters are coloured, and his stepmother is black.

He further wrote that he 'didn't understand the point to prove' something with a gesture when he 'lives and learn and love from all walks of life every day.' De Kock clarified that he is not a racist and that even though he is not good with words, he has tried his best to explain how truly sorry he is. For those unversed, in this World Cup, all the players are taking the knee to stand against racism before the match begins.

Quinton de Kock currently plays for South Africa and plays for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL.
