As a part of the fourth phase of the Unlock, the number of employees in the offices have started increasing. As a result, the number of BEST passengers increased by 41,000.

From September 1, private offices were allowed to increase staff attendance from 10 per cent to 30 per cent. However, they have not been permitted to travel on suburban trains as of now. As a result, BEST has been ferrying these passengers.

On August 31, 3,376 buses were operated. Moreover, 15.32 lakh passengers travelled in these buses. Even though September 1 was Anant Chaturdashi, the number of passengers travelling on the day was 13,52,853.

On September 2, due to the increase in the number of employees in private companies, the number of BEST passengers went up to 15,73,830. On Wednesday, the number of passengers increased by 41,000 as compared to Monday.

In the last 3 months, the number of BEST passengers has increased from 2.5 lakh to 15 lakhs. Therefore, following the rules of social distancing is posing to be a big challenge. Before the lockdown, 34 lakh passengers were travelling daily in the BEST buses. However, the number of passengers in June was around two and a half lakhs.

The BEST undertaking has 27 bus depots, 51 bus stations and 112 bus terminals. With the Maharashtra government launching the 'Mission Begin Again' initiative on June 8, BEST started 2,132 buses on 82 routes in the city of Mumbai for people travelling to their workplaces.
