In recent few years, many people have lost their lives or limbs after falling in the gap between the train and platforms at suburban stations. Despite Mumbai High Court’s orders of increasing platforms level, the Central Railways and Western Railways failed to follow the same.
According to the RTI activist Pratik Mishra, 60 out of 273 platforms on the CR line are in poor state. Same is the condition of 145, out of 173 platforms, on the WR line
Mishra further added that 60 platforms of 75 railway stations on CR line are being increased to 920 mm from their current level.
Harbour Line- Govandi, Chembur
Trans-Harbour- Airoli, Ghansoli, Koparkhairne
Central Line- Masjid, Kurla, Thane, Dombivali, Kalyan, Shahad, Titwala, Shelu, Nerul, Karjat, Khopoli, Dolavli
On WR Line, out of eight platforms, level of four platforms are being increased and one platform is going to be demolished.
The HC had directed the railway board to raise the height of platforms to 920 mm from the existing height and the deadline was given March 2015.
The court had given the direction while hearing a suo moto public interest litigation (PIL) taking cognizance of then rail mishap where 16-year-old Monica More lost her arms after she fell from a local train at Ghatkopar station on January 11, 2014.
