In an event held at Parel railway station on August 6, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais underscored the pivotal role of railways in Maharashtra's development as under the 'Amrit Bharat Sthanak Yojana' Scheme to modernise railway stations across the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country. Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw also joined virtually.
The initiative aims to elevate 44 railway stations across Maharashtra, with a focus on delivering world-class facilities to passengers. Addressing the gathering, Governor Bais, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his unwavering commitment to enhancing the state's infrastructure.
Governor Bais fervently called for the integration of environment-friendly and disabled-friendly facilities within the rejuvenated stations. The presence of other prominent dignitaries, including Uday Samant, Minister of Industries of Maharashtra, added further resonance to the event.
This endeavor encompasses notable stations in Mumbai, specifically Parel, Vikhroli, and Kanjurmarg. Particularly, Kanjurmarg railway station has been earmarked for an extensive revamp, a commendable undertaking with an estimated expenditure of INR 21.01 crore.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Patil Danve attended and addressed the programmes at Nagpur and Jalna railway stations respectively.
Highlighting the imperative of modernising railway stations that had long been overdue, the Governor envisioned that the infusion of contemporary infrastructure would not only invigorate rural development but also expedite travel convenience to Mumbai, the state capital. Furthermore, he accentuated the transformative potential of ongoing projects such as the Trans Harbor Link, Mumbai Metro Project, and Coastal Road Project, all of which are poised to metamorphose Mumbai into a world-class metropolis.
Meanwhile, 15 stations from Mumbai Division of Central Railway will be redesigned under ABSS.

What changes will be made?
Provision of FOB (Foot Over Bridge).
Provision of lifts and escalators.
Improvement of Circulating Area and Traffic Plan
Improvement of waiting hall and toilets
Improvements to the station facade
Improvement of lighting at stations
Provision of various signs and signals
Improvement of Train Indicator Board
Provision of coach indicator board
Increase vehicle parking
Extension of the roof over the platform
Railways had sought feedback from rail users, passenger user associations and various service providers at stations to suggest their views on station-specific requirements.
In a statement, the zonal railways, "suggestions for improvement of necessary facilities at stations on or before August 15, 2023 on email id @drmmumbaincr or on TwitterHastagas." It was said. It has also been said that suggestions based on the stage of work will be considered by the Railways.
