In a significant development, the Maharashtra government asked the MMRC and concerned departments to complete land acquisition and related issues for various metro corridor projects in Mumbai and MMR.

Accordingly, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the officials at the maiden war room meeting to work on a war footing and get the necessary permissions urgently.

Talking specifically about the much-awaited BJP’s pet project, Shinde ordered to complete the land acquisition, compensation and transfer of land in the INR 1.08 lakh crore Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed railway (bullet train) before September 30.

The 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will make it possible to travel between the two cities within three hours at a speed of 320 km per hour. The INR 1.1 lakh crore project, which is being built with financing from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will have a total of 12 stations, of which eight will be in Gujarat while four will be in Maharashtra.

It is pertinent to note that in the two months that have passed since it took over the reins of Maharashtra, the new government has cleared many roadblocks to boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project.

The state government also instructed authorities to speedily acquire land for other Metro projects, including lines 4 and 5, in which land from Thane was still to be acquired. Authorities informed the CM that the second phases of Metro 7 and 2A will be fully operational between Dahisar and Andheri by December.

The Pune-Nashik semi high speed rail also came up for discussion on Monday’s meeting. The railway route planned in 2017 and announced by the Central government in the 2021 budget, is yet to be cleared by the cabinet committee of economic affairs.

Besides, Shinde also reviewed the present status of various other transport infrastructure projects including railway, metro, multimodal corridor and development of Tuljapur and Pandharpur temples.
