The city’s transport network is a developmental high and we will soon receive the services of one-of-its-kind futuristic transportation system ‘Hyperloop’ which is being planned between Mumbai and Pune.

It is expected that the blueprint, i.e. a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be ready within the next six months and as soon as the report is presented, the accurate travel fare and the daily ridership will be ascertained. On the other hand, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) authorities stated that the test run for hyperloop will begin only after the project construction has been awarded to any one particular company.

Currently, PMRDA is working with Virgin Hyperloop One which is said to have prepared a pre-feasibility report for hyperloop connectivity between the two cities. The Hyperloop is considered as a future means of transport where a tube-like pod will allow the passengers to travel between Mumbai and Pune in merely 15-20 minutes.

It is also expected that the proposed route will start from Pune via Expressway and will eventually come all the way till Bandra-Kurla Complex via Navi Mumbai.

We cannot assume the fare or ridership at this moment. Whatever we have is mere rough estimations but in the next six months we expect to complete the preparation of DPR that will have all the details along with its starting and ending point," said Metropolitan Commissioner, PMRDA, Kiran Gitte.

However, India is not the only country that is planning to have a hyperloop. Countries such as UAE, USA, Canada, Finland, and the Netherlands too have been working on having this new form of transport where Virgin Hyperloop One is also involved.
