The Kali-Pili taxis in the city will now compete with the travel aggregator agencies like Ola and Uber as a new mobile app has been developed for them and it will be launched on June 1.

After the entry of Ola and Uber taxis as competitors, the Kali-Pili taxi owners have been facing tough times. As per popular belief, commuters prefer the services of Ola and Uber due to arrogant attitude of Kali-Pili taxi drivers. After acknowledging threat from these travel aggregator agencies, Kali-Pili taxi drivers came together to form the Mumbai Taximen’s Union. With the help of Bengaluru-based Sun Telemax company, Mumbai Taximen’s Union has been launching the mobile app called ‘Aamchi Drive’. This app will be made available in Marathi, Hindi and English languages and commuters will be able to book their Kali-Pili taxi in comparatively lesser fares.

There are over 40,000 Kali-Pili taxis drivers and all of them will be provided training of this app in the month of May. These taxis will offer in air conditioned and non-AC services. For non-AC travel, fares will be Rs 14-15 per km while for AC commuting the fares will be Rs 16 per km. The taxi drivers are eligible to download this app freely while commuters will have to shell out Rs 5 to download this app.

As many as 2000 Kali-Pili taxis will start their services on this app from June 1, informed A. L. Quadros, general secretary of Mumbai Taximen’s Union.
