Mumbai: Growing support for BEST drivers' strike; Bus services disrupted in 18 depots

The strike of contract drivers of BEST Bus continues for the third day. Due to this, passengers are suffering. A total of 1375 buses did not ply until 9:00 am today on August 4, 2023 due to the strike called by the workers of the private bus supply contractor.

Today's protest includes workers of SMT, Mateshwari, Tata, Hansa, Olectra, and Switch. However, 76, 35 and 162 bus trains of SMT, Mateshwari, Hansa have been introduced respectively. Action is being taken against the above mentioned business organisation as per the terms and conditions of the contract. They have also been directed to immediately discuss with their workers and find a solution.

BEST initiatives are promoting maximum number of buses using maximum number of bus drivers so as to provide bus service to the passengers. Due to the strike, bus services are affected in Back Bay, Colaba, Mumbai Central, Worli, Pratiksha Nagar, Andak, Dharavi, Kalakilla, Deonar, Shivaji Nagar, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Majas, Santacruz, Oshiwara, Malvani, Gorai and Magathane depots.

As on today August 4, 2023, the fleet of the BEST initiative has a total of 3061 buses comprising 1390 owned and 1671 wet lease.
