Ethiopian Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai Airport After Pilots Discover Fumes

An ET690 aircraft belonging to Ethiopian Airlines made an emergency landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Sunday after discovering a technical glitch. The flight took off from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and was on the way to Bengaluru before the emergency landing took place in Mumbai.

The onboard pilots took the call after reportedly noticing fumes in the aircraft. The glitch was subsequently discovered to be a hydraulic leakage. “The aircraft landed safely and was parked,” a spokesperson for the Mumbai International Airport Limited said.

The spokesperson added that a full emergency was declared under the standard operating procedures for such situations.

Officials said that one rescue van, three fire tenders, and other fire extinguishing equipment were requested from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, though they didn’t enter the airport as they mostly remained on standby. The city’s international airport has its own set of fire fighting crew and equipment.
