Every year, thousands of visitors prefer travelling to different areas in Konkan, during Ganesh Chaturthi. However, this year, the coronavirus outbreak raised concerns for commuters, as modes of transport were limited due to the lockdown.

After a long wait of five months, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), on Thursday, August 20, resumed the inter-district services, which were earlier stopped in March 2020. The first bus left last week from Mumbai Central to Chiplun, at 8.30 am. A total of six passengers were on board, and passengers were expected to join the journey for Dadar and other stops.

Several more buses are planned from several depots in the state where moderate and long-distance journies were planned. On the other hand, the government also decided to get rid of e-pass which was made compulsory for commuters during the lockdown.

As per reports, officials are planning special services for the return journey. A total of 855 buses have been reserved for the return commute and most of these will leave for Mumbai on the eighth day of Ganeshotsav. These passengers have also opted for cheaper travel for the return journey and keeping the festival in mind, a special fare is being charged for the reservation. The return journey of these festival services started on August 23, 2020, and will continue till September 2, 2020.

A total of 855 trains have been reserved during this period, which also includes some group reservation vehicles. Officials expect a large number of passengers between August 28-30, as these mark important days of the festival, and keeping this in mind, more than 600 services will leave Konkan on these 3 days.
