Mumbai and Maharashtra have been under lockdown for months due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the state government has started unlocking business activities under ‘Mission Begin Again’. The Uddhav Thackeray government is providing ease in the lockdown restrictions in a staggered manner.

With the reopening of offices, people are constantly demanding that they be allowed to travel in local trains in Mumbai. Currently, only the employees working in essential sectors are allowed to board the trains.

Several political parties in opposition have protested against the state government in Maharashtra while demanding that the local train services be restarted for general passengers.

However, while responding to this, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray clarified that Mumbai local will not start at its full capacity anytime soon. Thackeray was addressing the citizens via Facebook Live on Sunday and said that the government has inter-district travel in Maharashtra.

“The inter-state and long-distance travel within the state has already started. The government is unlocking in a staggered manner. However, the local trains haven’t started because I don’t want crowds,” Thackeray said.

The government will increase the frequency of local trains which would allow more people to travel in them, the Chief Minister informed while adding that the strength in government offices is also being increased.

While talking about reopening of gyms, Thackeray said that the government is in talks with gyms and is working on guidelines for them. He said that the coronavirus pandemic still prevails and hinted the gyms may not be allowed to start soon.
