The monorail services in Mumbai have been shut since the lockdown was announced in March this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. In the last few months, the Maharashtra government has been relaxing the lockdown restrictions under ‘Mission Begin Again’ and is unlocking business activities to get the economy back on track.

The state government on Wednesday allowed the metro trains to operate in Mumbai. The local trains have already been running but only for the employees working in essential sectors. Now, the monorail has been allowed to operate for general passengers on the Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle route.

Although the guidelines issued by the Maharashtra government on Wednesday doesn’t mention monorail, the services will commence from October 18 following the COVID-19 protocol. The official Twitter handle of Mumbai Monorail announced the same on October 14.

Those who don’t wear masks will not be allowed to travel in the monorail. The monorail administration will strictly follow the ‘no mask, no travel’ initiative started by the government. Passengers will have to cooperate in following the social distancing norms and adhering to other rules to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Apart from this, the Maharashtra government has allowed public and private libraries to operate from Thursday while following COVID-19 protocols of social distancing and sanitation.

Moreover, business to business (B2B) exhibitions has been allowed followed by local weekly markets - including that of animals. SOPs for the same will be issued by the concerned departments.

The shops and markets will be permitted to open for another two hours - from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This has been done to control the crowd. The domestic passengers coming to Maharashtra via flights and trains will not be stamped from October 15.
