The state government has given the green light to hand over 69 acres of land in Dongri village of Uttan to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the Dahisar-Mira Road Metro 9 route carshed. MMRDA is likely to take over this place in the next eight to ten days. The way to construct the car shed of Metro 9 has finally been cleared.

The MMRDA is constructing a 10.5 km long 'Metro 9' line with an aim to speed up travel between Dahisar-Mira Road. When the work of 'Metro 9' was going on at a fast pace, the problem of the car shed on this route became serious. According to the original plan, car sheds were to be constructed in the villages of Rai, Murdha, Morwa for this route. However, the local residents strongly opposed the construction of a car shed here. Finally, taking cognizance of the protest of the residents, the state government cancelled the carshed in Rai, Murdha, Morwa. It was local residents who suggested an alternative site for the car shed. Accordingly, the state government has chosen the option of a place in the village of Dongri in Uttan.

It has been decided to build a car shed on 69 hectares of land in Dongri. A senior MMRDA official informed that the state government has recently issued a written order to give this space to MMRDA for car shed. According to this order, there is a possibility that this place will be taken over by the MMRDA in the next eight to ten days from the District Collector. After taking possession of the site, MMRDA will take further action to construct the car shed. Meanwhile, MMRDA will have to extend the 'Metro 9' route by approximately 5.5 km as the carshed has been shifted from Rai, Murdha, Morwa to Dongri.

The work of preparing the detailed plan of this extended route is currently underway. If this expansion takes place, Uttan can be reached directly from Dahisar in a few minutes. Importantly, the last station of this route is going to be close to two tourist spots namely Pagoda and Essel World. So it will be easier for Mumbaikars to visit Pagoda and Essel World in future.
