No Autorickshaws in Mumbai Tuesday onwards!

The union have a set of demands which include banning cab aggregators like Ola and Uber as they pose a great threat to their work, cracking down illegal autos and cabs on roads and a hike in their fares as they have not been raised since the past 3 years.

With the onset of monsoon in Mumbai, autorickshaws are in great demand as they transport millions of Mumbaikars daily. Autorickshaw Chalak Malak Sanghatna Sanyukt Kruti Samiti, a union of autorickshaw drivers had issued warnings in the month of June and had threatened to go on a strike if their demands were not fulfilled. However, over four lakh autorickshaw drivers have decided to go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday, July 9.

Their demands include banning cab aggregators like Ola and Uber, cracking down illegal autos and cabs on roads and a hike in their fares as they have not been raised since the past 3 years. They have also demanded that the government should provide them with retirement benefits like pension, medical benefits and Provident Fund (PF). 

Notably, several unions from other parts of the state like Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Aurangabad will also be participating in the strike.
