The Transport Department of Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has introduced a special bus service on the Dombivli to Thane route on a pilot basis, starting from March 4, 2026.
This bus will run between Mothagaon Circle in Dombivli and Majivada Junction in Thane.
According to a KDMC transport official, the service will initially operate two 40-seater buses. During peak hours, four trips will be conducted in each direction daily, taking the total number of trips to eight.
It will be a great alternative route for all those going from Dombivli to Thane. This bus service will be of great benefit to avoid the life-threatening rush in local trains, especially in the morning and evening. This will also decongest the load of the railways to some extent.
Additionally, it will be time-saving and convenient for the passengers since it will be possible to travel directly to Thane by road.
Realising the intensity of the overcrowding issue, Corporator Dipesh Mhatre had repeatedly demanded from the KDMC administration. He had strongly raised the issue that providing an alternative to the road route would reduce the pressure on the railways. Taking note of their efforts, the administration has decided to start this bus service immediately. This decision has brought relief to thousands of passengers in Dombivli.
Dipesh Mhatre has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation administration for this important decision.
He has also expressed his gratitude to Dombivli MLA and BJP state president Ravindra Chavan for his special cooperation and support in this work. Mhatre has clarified that this bus service will not be limited to a pilot basis, but will continue to make it regular in the future and increase the frequency of bus services.
