Soon, Mumbaikars will be able to commute through railways, bus, monorail, and metro using one, single smart card. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave a green signal during a cabinet meeting on Friday.

Now, the single ticketing system work will kick-off on March 1, 2018.

Fadnavis commented during a cabinet meeting that it will be convenient for commuters as it will save money and time.

According to the officials, the first phase will include buses, railways, and the monorail and later it will include the Metro as well. Commuters will be able to use the single ticket as a smart card. In later stages, the government is planning to integrate taxi, auto and toll charges.

In the past, the state government was not able to implement the single ticketing system because of policy issues and revenue model between different transport systems was not decided.

Initially, the railways had also opposed this system but eventually, they have come on board and now they will discuss the sharing model regarding various agencies.
