Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have been on a rise across Maharashtra and on the other hand, citizens have been preparing for Ganeshotsav 2021. Despite the government's announcement to celebrate the same in a simple manner, citizens across Maharashtra have been gathering crowds in the markets to purchase the necessities for the celebrations. Meanwhile, people also choose to travel to other districts to celebrate the festivities with friends and family.

Reports about mandatory RT-PCR for commuters  were shared a few days and this was opposed by the citizens and members from the opposition parties. Responding to the same, State Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Uday Samant, on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, confirmed that it is not necessary for people to have taken both vaccines or to present RT-PCR report for travelling to Konkan during the Ganeshotsav festival. It is being said the government has decided to let the citizens be responsible for the same and the concerned district officers will have to do the needful.

Two doses of vaccine or RT-PCR test was made mandatory for people travelling to Konkan and officials were asked to investigate the matters accordingly. But soon the authorities realised that the same could lead to confusion or dispute in towns and village. Tests were also arranged at a few railway stations but this led to chaos among the passengers. Clarifying the same, Minister Samant issued a statement  at a press conference held on Tuesday.

Every year during Ganeshotsav, a large number of citizens travel to Konkan, and considering the number, officials estimate that the number of COVID-19 cases could increase once again, as the pattern was observed last year post the first COVID wave. However, officials have informed that the prevalence of the COVID infection has dropped significantly and hence if anyone is experiencing symptoms of cold, cough or fever, they should take care of themselves and act responsibly.

Moreover, an appeal has also been made to inform the authorities in village to ensure necessary action or steps are taken to contain the spread and offer treatment. Adding more, Minister Samant has appealed to the people to keep their respective families safe during these times.
