Self-paid RTPCR test mandatory for selected international travellers arriving at CSIA

The guidelines were revised by the state government and the concerned department released the new set of rules on September 1, 2021. These will be implemented from the midnight on September 3, 2021.

The state government of Maharashtra, on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, announced new guidelines for international travelers visiting Maharashtra. As per the statement released by the government, all the passengers will be required to undergo RTPCR testing at their own cost, once they arrive at the airport.

The decision has been taken keeping the rising coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and newly identified strains in mind. Directives for the same were also issued from the Central Government and reports state that the same will be applicable for passengers traveling to India by air from the UK, Europe, Middle East, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, and Zimbabwe. These revised guidelines will be implemented from the midnight on September 3, 2021.

Information regarding the same was shared on Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) official Twitter handle. The message read, "In view of new mutations, pax arriving at Mumbai Airport from UK, Europe, Middle East, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe shall be mandatorily subjected to self-paid RTPCR Test on arrival."

Officials further added that all the international passengers will be required to undergo RTPCR test at their own cost upon arrival at Mumbai Airport. Moreover, all the decisions regarding the test which were made earlier as exceptions and as per the previous circulars are now being canceled.

International travelers will be required to submit a report of negative RTPCR test valid within 72 hours of travel, post which they will be allowed to leave the airport. Moreover, passengers submitting such a negative test report will not be required to undergo RTPCR test at Mumbai Airport.

A self-declaration form will have to be filled along with the undertaking in the prescribed form which will have to be submitted it to the concerned authorities appointed at Mumbai Airport. Passengers will be required to stay under home quarantine for 14 days.

If a passengers decides to undergo testing at the airport, they will have to pay INR 600 for the test as per the rate fixed by the government. In order to speed up the tests, officials will be able to test approximately 600 passengers per hour.
