The state government has decided to allow general public to commute in the local train during the non-peak hours from February 1. With this, the railway administration has expected of congestion at the railway station.

In order to avoid overcrowding various entrances, pedestrian bridges will be reopened for passengers as required. The government has also suggested private offices to tweak their timings or curtail working hours, to avoid crowding in trains. Moreover, Thackeray also asked the railway officials to review the Chennai pattern and how it was working.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Security Force (RPF) officials have come up with a joint strategy to manage the crowd at railway stations. The general public can travel from first train service to 7 am, then 12 pm to 4 pm and from 9 pm onwards. Whereas, during the peak hours, i.e between 7 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm, everyone's admission card, permission letter will be checked at the entrance of the station.

In addition, fearless squads, special squads will be deployed for the safety of women passengers. The crowd of passengers will be closely monitored by CCTV cameras in the station premises.

Around 3,100 officers and officials from GRP Mumbai Commissionerate will be deployed from February 1 for crowd control. Besides, Railway Police is making efforts to make the jawans of Maharashtra Security Board available if required.

At present, there are 1,000 RPF personnel in the suburban station. Their working hours are also planned. Two drone cameras will be procured for crowd control at the station.

Moreover, mock drills will be conducted by the Railway Police to control the crowds once the local service starts. It will study how to get passengers to the stations easily and conveniently through the entrances, what to do in case of overcrowding or if the passengers stranded at the entrances become violent.
