The Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) has started services that link the industrial hub of Bhiwandi with the densely populated suburbs of Diva and Mumbra. The services commenced with effect on March 5, 2021. The service has been started on an experimental basis.
The new route number 84 will now connect Mumbra police station and Shivaji chowk in Bhiwandi through 20 trips in each direction. The first bus from Mumbra will depart at 7 am while that from Bhiwandi will leave at 8.20 am. The last bus from Mumbra will leave at 8 pm while that from Bhiwandi will depart at 9.20 pm.
According to reports, the services will take nearly one hour to complete each trip. Moreover, it will be of great benefit to residents of Diva and Mumbra suburbs.
There was a long pending demand from residents of both the cities to get a direct connection to Bhiwandi. Residents who are employed in Bhiwandi presently had to use multiple modes of transport to travel to and from work, said a Thane municipal official.
