Thane traffic police have started a special drive against errant rickshaw drivers outside Thane station. Strict action will be taken against those not following the rules.

On Monday, October 18, a meeting was held with the auto-rickshaw union and traffic police in this regards. In order to provide convenience to the commuters, joint efforts are made by the traffic police, Thane police, GRP, RPF, and RTO.

DCP, Thane Traffic, Balasaheb Patil said that in the meeting, auto driver representatives from across the city were also present. They have informed the drivers to use licenses, permits, and batches compulsorily. Moreover, it has also been instructed to not use any fancy numbers and not to charge any passengers excessively.

According to the rules, the autorickshaws will have to stand in the queue and not leave any queue outside the station, Patil added. They have given an ultimatum to all the auto-drivers to comply to all the regulations. The rickshaw drivers have been directed to get the uniforms stitched by end of this month, and the police will take strict actions against those not wearing the uniform code from November 1.

Patil, while urging the passengers, said that they will have to wait in the queue for their turn to get in the auto, and the drivers must avoid taking more than three passengers in the rickshaw. If the drivers are charging them excessively it should be brought to their notice, he added.
