To check the arbitrariness of rickshaw, taxi and private passenger bus drivers and ensure the speedy redressal of complaints, the Transport Department will create a grievance redressal system that will work through an app.

Through this app, one can send pictures of the vehicle of the arbiter along with the number of the vehicle. On receiving this, the concerned RTO will be immediately taken cognizance and action will be taken. The Transport Department stated that the system would be operational in nearly ten days.

While travelling in rickshaws, taxis, mobile app-based taxis, private passenger buses etc, in Maharashtra, many times passengers are charged extra fares and are fought with without any reason. Therefore, to register a complaint, passengers had to first contact the traffic police helpline. Since the RTO doesn’t have such a facility, if one wishes to register a complaint, they were required to drop in an email to the concerned authority. Many times, these grievances weren’t resolved. Therefore, the Transport Department has decided to provide the facility of a mobile app. Whilst such a service did exist in 2017, it was operational for a year and a half post which was then closed due to technical issues. The decision to amend it was taken about fourth months ago but owing to financial and technical constraints, the app service was interrupted again. However, it has now received approval of funding from the government, thus the feature is set to be launched soon.

How Will The Mobile App Work?

  • Passengers and drivers will have to download the mobile app. This information will be given by the Department of Transport.
  • In the app, information needs to be filled
  • The app will have a facility to take pictures and upload them
  • It will also include options for complaints that can be selected
  • After sending all the requisite information, the concerned RTO of the state will receive information and take the necessary steps
