Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have reduced in Mumbai and nearby regions, however, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not allowed general public to commute on the Mumbai local trains. Though the restrictions are eased, people cannot travel on the train and this has raised concerns for the people who have suffered immense loss during the second wave of COVID-19 lockdown.

Over the last few weeks, many passengers were found travelling either without a ticket or using fake ID cards and understanding the same, the state government decided to impose strict restrictions to control the incidents. On Monday, June 28, 2021, official announced that the state government will soon launch a 'Universal Travel Pass' With QR Code for travelling in the Mumbai local train. Meanwhile, people are forced to use other modes of public transport or use the private vehicles for the commute; and with rising fuel prices, this seems to have increased difficulties for the people.

Keeping this in mind, people have demanded the local train travel to resume as soon as possible. People are facing survival issues  as many do not have means of travelling from distant places to the city, and this affects their daily wages, basis which they survive.

A youth was recently held by the officials for travelling without a ticket. He was presented before the ticket collector where he recorded the conversation and shares the plight of not being able to earn money as he was not able to travel. The video has been shared by many Mumbaikars as they understand the plight and feel the same.

While sharing the information with the ticket collector, he said that he had finally found a job after 1.5 years. In the previous job, he earned INR 35,000 a month, however, now he has only 400 left to survive.

A Twitter user named Omkar Raut shared the video with a message that said, "This situation is there with the youth now in Mumbai. Same story can be guessed for me & my fellow DJ's from the Entertainment Industry. The government should look into this very seriously."

Meanwhile, Municipal Commission Iqbal Singh Chahal, in a recently released statement informed that the Mumbai local train services will not resume anytime soon for the public. Minister Vijay Wadettiwar further clarified that the local trains for general public will only resume once COVID-19 pandemic ends
