It is said that these stone artefacts are from the medieval period, and contain depictions of war heroes as well as a five-headed cow alongside a calf, Shinde said. He mentioned that his office will inform the Archaeological Survey of India to obtain more information on the same.

Residents of the region said that such idols or artefacts were never found in the region before. They added that desilting more lakes in the region, followed by excavations, could uncover more idols or ancient artefacts. The region currently has three lakes that are relatively full.

Jawhar used to be a princely state centuries ago but fell into disrepair with subsequent rulers. The Archaeological Survey of India is yet to comment on these findings and there’s no clarity on whether it will conduct deeper a study in the region.
