Quick commerce startup Zepto is set to relocate its headquarters from Powai, Mumbai, to a larger facility in Sarjapur, Bengaluru. It is being said that this move comes as the company experiences significant growth in both size and revenue, and reflects its growth ambitions and the need to streamline operations. By consolidating its workforce and centralizing its functions, the company aims to enhance efficiency and reduce costs, positioning itself for continued success in the quick commerce sector.

Although Zepto already has an office in Bengaluru, the company aims to centralize its corporate functions by consolidating operations from various cities into one location. Currently, Zepto runs its business verticals out of Mumbai, while its tech and product teams are based in Bengaluru. The relocation will bring all 1,700 to 1,800 employees together under one roof. A source disclosed that all employees have been instructed to relocate to Bengaluru by late November or early December. Zepto will cover the relocation expenses for employees making the move. The one-time cost of the relocation is estimated at Rs 3 crore to Rs 4 crore, but the company expects to offset this with monthly savings of Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh in rent.

A report in Business Standard mentioned that currently Zepto operates from two main offices in India: an 80,000-90,000 sq ft facility in Mumbai and a 30,000-40,000 sq ft space in Bengaluru. The plan is to vacate both locations and merge operations into a new 150,000 sq ft office in Bengaluru. Negotiations for securing a property in the Sarjapur, HSR, or Bellandur areas are reportedly in the final stages. Of Zepto’s total workforce, approximately 1,000 employees are based in Mumbai, 400 in Bengaluru, and around 300 are spread across various locations managing city operations. The report indicates that around 90 percent of the Mumbai-based employees are willing to relocate, with discussions ongoing for the remaining staff. It is anticipated that only 5 to 7 percent of the Mumbai workforce will be unable to move to Bengaluru if the plans proceed smoothly.
