Notably, of the total 94 positive cases from the area, the results of 74 cases had been obtained from private labs, whereas the rest 20 were received from government labs

On Monday, twelve new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the Mira-Bhayander area. The new cases have emerged even after all the shops, including essential services, were completely shut in Mira-Bhayander following a rise in the number of cases in the township. The shutdown will continue till Thursday.

As per Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) the cause of spike in the COVID-19 positive cases was a hospital in the locality. The hospital was admitting patients without conducting tests and a few of the patients that were admitted tested positive and through them, a lot of people in the neighbourhood have tested positive. MBMC is still tracing the primary and secondary contacts of the patients. 

The areas in Mira-Bhayander where 12 patients have tested positive consist of, Navghar Road, Rawal Nagar, Cabin Road, Opposite NH School, Vijay Nagar, Hatkesh, Poonam Sagar Complex (2 cases), near Jogger's Park, 60 ft Road, Loda Nagar, Bharati Park, Patel Complex, and New Golden Nest.

Thee are a total of 94 positive cases in this area. 74 people among these got their tests done from private labs, while the rest 20 got it from government labs.

Even though the cases are not coming down, MBMC Commissioner Chandrakant Dange has said the lockdown will be relaxed post-Thursday. The municipal corporation had announced a complete shutdown of all shops, except pharmacies, on Sunday. 


In the meantime, while the shops have been ordered to stay closed, the home delivery of essential services has been allowed between 9:00 am-5:00 pm.

Along with this, MBMC has stated that vehicles of essential service workers in government and non-government departments, police, hospital staff & goods will be allowed to move in and out of the area.

With new cases emerging in the area, it is vital that the people practice social distancing norms and stay at homes. The civic body has also warned that anyone breaking the above order will be punished under the Maharashtra COVID-19 Regulations, 2020.
