According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, nearly 97 per cent of the aggregate eligible population of 9.2 million over the age of 18 have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mumbai, stated reports.

In light of these recent developments, all those eligible in the city is anticipated to be fully inoculated by the end of February. On Wednesday, February 16, for the second day in a row, Mumbai reported zero fatalities owing to coronavirus.

It is anticipated further vaccination numbers will pave the way forward for the civic authority to introduce further relaxations in restrictions.

Based on accounts, the Maharashtra Health Department’s weekly data depicted that the average TPR in the second week of February dropped to 3.99 per cent from 9.30 per cent in the first week of February.

In accordance with the data, overall, 19,803,386 doses have been administered in the city. Earlier, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had remarked that they will commence lifting the curbs by the end of February.

However, additional municipal commissioner, Suresh Kakani was quoted by accounts elaborating on how there is a possibility of increasing the restaurant’s capacity and giving more relaxations to gyms, marriage functions etc.

BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal reportedly mentioned that the body will see if the restrictions can be lifted in the arriving months as cases reduce.

On the other hand, Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of the state task force against COVID-19 took to Twitter saying, “We are seeing the end of Indian 3rd wave and hopefully a disruption free life with precautions soon”.

Similarly, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray had earlier said that 100 per cent of restrictions in Mumbai will be eased when COVID-19 will not have a presence amongst the citizens.
