As the Mumbai rains subdued over the weekend and the city witness sunshine again, the beaches were thrown open for public without time restrictions.
With this, Mumbaikars can enjoy their weekend on beaches as there isn’t any red or orange alert for now.
Therefore, as usual many people visited beaches over the weekend. However, a video showing a panoramic view of plastic being littered on Mumbai’s Mahim beach left social media into frenzy.

Despite several warnings, awareness campaigns, advisory posts and regulations, people in the city haven't got rid of their habit of throwing garbage in the sea.
The clip was shared by a Twitter profile named Mumbaimatterz, who pointed out the return gift from the Arabian Sea to its people. The video shows a tremendous amount of trash scattered across the beach to the point where little sand is visible.

A day later, on Sunday, July 17, a follow-up tweet uploaded by the Ward G/North showed a photo of the beach before and after authorities and BMC helped to clean and clear the sands.
In addition, the tweet asked that citizens refrain from throwing their trash into rivers and drains as it eventually ends up in the sea.
Twitter users expressed their anger and disappointment, with many calling for stricter enforcement.
Meanwhile, it is pertinent to note that to keep a public place is not just the responsibility of the civic body but citizens must also encourage to maintain cleanliness in and around its surroundings.
For those unversed, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in an order on July 7, restricted entry to beaches on heavy rainfall days as a precautionary measure. The decision was taken in view of the rising drowning incidents this year.
