During this 10-hour period from 10:30 pm on Saturday, August 12 to Sunday, August 13, 2023, 8:30 am, 18 patients died at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital that falls under the jurisdiction of Thane Municipal Corporation. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had directed to constitute a committee for a proper inquiry into the accident and submit a report with recommendations so that such incidents do not recur.


Government decision to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of the Health Services Commissioner has been issued today. According to the government's decision, the Commissioner of the Health Services Commissionerate will be the chairman. Also Deputy Director of Thane Health Board as Member Secretary, Thane Collector as Member, District Surgeon, Thane Municipal Commissioner, Director of Directorate of Health Services-1, Joint Director of Directorate of Health Services (State Level), Assistant Director of Medical Health Maintenance and Repair Team, Pharmacist (to be nominated by the Commissioner, Health Services) will be there.

The committee is to determine the sequence of events, examine the status of all systems in the hospital, suggest necessary measures and recommendations to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. It will examine the measures and accordingly fix the responsibility of the concerned machinery, officers and employees.


The Commissioner of Health Services may seek the assistance of officers from other departments or offices to investigate the incident. The committee will have to submit its report to the government by August 25, 2023.
