Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Bhai Girkar demanded to cancel the exam of recruiting safai workers which fall into class IV BMC workers. He made a statement in the legislative assembly raising an opposition on question paper, which was set in a difficult manner.

Recently, the BMC had conducted an exam to recruit class IV employees. But safai workers had to solve some really difficult questions, believed civic body’s various departments. Girkar said that questions which were asked to 10th passed safai workers were so difficult that he doubts even graduates would have been able to answer. Girkar raised the same question in the assembly, replying to which, the speaker Ramraje Nimbalkar ordered to conduct an inquiry and submit the report.

In 2009, the BMC had conducted similar exams for class IV employees. Then, applicants had to appear for fitness tests and exams and likewise, safai workers were recruited, said Grikar.

He also said that it was wrong to expect a person belonging to a rural area to handle desktop and appear for the online exam in a first go. He also highlighted the fees for an application which was ₹800 saying that it was unaffordable for a to-be safai worker.

According to Girkar, two lakh safai workers appeared for an examination and added that workers who were on the waiting list should have given the preference.

I will be submitting the proposal of canceling the exams to CM and Mumbai Mayor. I will hope that the state will take the right decision," Bhai Girkar, MLC.
