As the daily coronavirus cases have seen a downward trend in the last few days in Maharashtra, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, May 31, revised the guidelines for domestic passengers arriving at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. It also mentioned that this new directive is effective immediately.

In the order issued, BMC stated that Mumbai airport authorities and airlines will not insist on undergoing the RT-PCR test for domestic air passengers originating from airports located within Maharashtra.

Similarly, all domestic air passengers travelling from Mumbai airport to airports located within Maharashtra, airport operator/airlines shall not insist on RT-PCR test, the order read.

Earlier in May, the Mumbai airport officials had announced that it is mandatory for all domestic passengers arriving in the city to present a negative RT-PCR test report at the time of boarding the flight. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in its official statement mentioned that there would be no exemptions in place.

Moreover, the civic body had also issued a letter addressed to the Airline station managers and CEOs of various airlines including Go Air, Indigo, Vistara, SpiceJet, etc., and had directed them to mention the government directions about compulsory negative RT-PCR test on the ticket. This move came after the Maharashtra government extended the lockdown-like restrictions till June 1.

Meanwhile, the civic body and airport authorities have eased the inter-state travelling restrictions despite the extension of lockdown by the Uddhav Thackeray-led state government.

In addition, reports also suggest the possibility of a third wave, which is likely to affect children and teenagers, arriving in August-September this year across the nation.
