The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently released a comprehensive map depicting the demarcation of 236 electoral wards in Mumbai, highlighted reports.

According to accounts, the State Election Commission (SEC) has also accorded permission to the BMC to call for inviting suggestions as well as objections from the citizens in regards to the ward delimitation.

Based on reports, from February 1 to February 14, the civic authority will open suggestions as well as objections from the public on the demarcated ward boundaries. On February 16, the civic body will then inform the SEC about the suggestions and objections that are attained for the BMC elections.

It has been reported that the civic authority has been permitted to organize hearings for public members who have given their recommendations and objections till February 26. Meanwhile, by March 2, the concerned officer from the civic body will have to submit the suggestion to the SEC.

With an aggregate of 236 wards in the BMC, 219 are in the Open Category, 15 are in the SC Category and two are in the ST category. On the other hand, 118 wards have been reserved for women. Of these, 109 are in the open section, eight in the SC category and one in the ST category.

It has been reported that the nine new wards have come up in the following areas:

  • R North and R central- 1 ward
  • K east and H east- 1 ward
  • R south- 1 ward
  • L and N- 1 ward
  • N- 1 ward
  • M west and M east- 1 ward
  • G south- 1 ward
  • F south and G south- 1 ward
  • E and F south and B- 1 ward
