The number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra has been increasing on a daily basis. With the unlocking of business activities under ‘Mission Begin Again’, there is a higher risk for people to contract the virus. It has been observed that social distancing and other safety protocols are not being followed by citizens.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a massive public awareness campaign aimed at encouraging people to wear face masks. BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has directed that those who don’t wear masks will be liable for punishment.

A meeting was held via video conferencing which was attended by senior BMC officials. In the meeting, the BMC decided to intensify its campaign against those who don’t wear masks while venturing outside.

Chahal, BMC Commissioner, instructed the civic officials to increase awareness among people to wear masks. All the offices, establishments, malls, residential societies should be given instructions to paste ‘No Mask, No Entry’ stickers.

The ‘No Mask, No Entry’ stickers should also be pasted on BEST buses, taxis, auto-rickshaws, among others. BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that these instructions should be implemented across the metropolitan strictly.

Those found not wearing face masks in public transport and places will be fined ₹200. The BMC has been continuously carrying out public awareness campaigns and has taken action against thousands of violators for not wearing masks.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday praised the efforts of Kolhapur administration to start ‘No Mask, No Entry’ and ‘No Mask, No Goods’ campaigns for private offices and commercial establishment. He had said that such initiatives should be included in the government’s campaign and implemented across the state.
