According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has tabled a detailed food truck policy before the law committee for approval that includes distribution and location for the setting up of food trucks at 50 locations in Mumbai

Based on accounts, in accordance with the policy the food truck's slots planned on the lines of "Food on Wheels" will be tendered. The food trucks will be permitted to operate from one location and won't be allowed to drive across the island city.

It is anticipated that once the policy is approved, the civic authority will float tenders and select bidders to operate the food trucks. Apart from this, almost 25 per cent or 50 per cent of the aggregate locations will be accorded to women's self-help groups, cited narratives.

Moreover, the location will be given for 36 months and the food truck spot can be placed near high footfall areas such as parks, tourist spots and educational institutions. Additionally, the truck's location has to be at least 200 feet from the prevailing restaurants and at least 15 feet distance should be there between two trucks.

Upon the finalization of the locations, citizens can send their recommendations and objections for 15 days. Civic officials have also been asked to see to it that citizens living near the food truck's location don't have issues with the unit.

The policy reportedly emphasized the selling of balanced and nutritious meals through the "food on wheels". The owners of the food trucks can utilize LPG, microwave, electric cooking units.

What's also compulsory is attaining a no-objection certificate from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, BMC's health department as well as the shop and establishment department. They will also need to seek permission from the state transport corporation for drivers, highlighted reports.
