In an attempt to advocate a healthy lifestyle, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken the decision to commence free yoga classes in mumbai from June 1, reports stated. 

According to accounts, the BMC invited expressions of interest from Mumbai's reputed yoga classes to enlist them to conduct yoga classes possibly daily from 6 am to 8 am. In its 2022-23 budget, the BMC had proclaimed that it would commence 200 Shiv Yoga Kendra in Mumbai. 

However, speculations are being made that the number of yoga centres will depend on the response garnered from the public. It has been reported that upon yoga classes depicting interest offer trained yoga teachers, the BMC will establish the yoga centres. 

Narratives claim that the yoga classes could be conducted at BMC schools, ward offices, marriage halls as well as any open public space for a minimum of 30 people. 

Similarly, while participants would need to bring mats, the BMC will make a dedicated email for the participants to contact for the classes. 

Sanjeev Kumar, additional municipal commissioner was quoted in reports elaborating on how the civic body will pay INR 1,000 for a session to each yoga teacher. Kumar added that the classes would be held five days a week with the local ward offices monitoring the sessions, cited accounts.
