In light of the surge in the cases of coronavirus in the K west ward which includes Andheri West and Oshiwara, the BMC has started conducting the door-to-door screening process. Currently, this ward has the fourth-highest number of cases in the city. Since March, the screening has helped the team identify 1,258 patients, which is a quarter of the ward's total tally of 5,324 cases.

According to official data obtained from the ward, a total of 2,37,933 people across 61,531 households have been screened using the door-to-door method since March. Through these medical checks, people who showed symptoms of COVID-19 were further examined and treated. Out of these, a total of 1,604 people were made to undergo tests for the coronavirus, of them, 1,258 tested positive for the infection. The process, even though is time-consuming, has helped the civic body in the early detection of cases.

In a turn of events, growing cases of the coronavirus have increasingly been reported at several high-rise buildings of Mumbai. Therefore, the teams are aggressively conducting door-to-door screening in these sealed residential buildings. Earlier, On June 22, door-to-door screening began in areas like Borivali and Kandivali. Authorities visited the high-risk zones and screened patients across the slum clusters and chawls in the area.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra, on June 21, reported 8,369 fresh cases of coronavirus in the state, taking the tally of confirmed cases to 3,27,031. The death toll further rose to 12,276 after 246 succumbed to the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus. The case fatality rate in the state now stands at 3.75 per cent, way above the country's 2.43 per cent. On the other hand, a record of 7,188 patients was discharged after recovery, which takes the number of recovered cases to 1,82,217. The recovery rate in Maharashtra is now 55.72 per cent, against the nation's 62.72 per cent.
