An unmanned electric bus operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport rolled backwards and crashed into a roadside booth in Mumbai’s Bhandup, causing panic among commuters.
The incident occurred when the bus was parked at a terminal point and the driver had stepped away for a break. The vehicle suddenly began moving in reverse and rammed into a nearby structure.
No injuries were reported in the incident, though the incident raised concerns about passenger safety and operational protocols.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the rollback may have been caused by a mechanical fault or improper application of the handbrake. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause.
Officials said safety procedures are being reviewed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
