Mumbai lakes filled to 85 per cent capacity in July

This year, Mumbai city faced sufficient rainfall and for the first time, all seven lakes were filled to 85 per cent capacity. This has happened in the span of two months.

The seven lakes, Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Upper Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vihar and Tulsi provides 3370 lakh million litres of water to the city. Till now, all seven lakes are filled up with 12,32,678 lakh million litres of water in comparison to last year’s capacity of 14,47,263.

Till now Modak Sagar, Tansa are filled up with water while Tulsi and Upper Vaitarna will be filled to its full capacity in few days.


Percentage lakes filled every year

2015 – 4,96,896 lakh million water (34.33%)
2016 – 8,66,448 lakh million water (59.86%)
2017 – 12,32,678 lakh million water (85.15%)
