According to the latest reports, in under a month of the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan also known as the Byculla zoo reopening, its footfall has reached pre-coronavirus levels. Zoo officials have been quoted in an account by the Hindustan Times elaborating on how the main attractions continue to be penguins, tigers, leopards.

The Byculla zoo has been non-operational for a month, from January 10 onwards and opened its doors to the public on February 10 after the third wave of COVID-19, driven by the highly transmissible Omicron variant reduced.

Based on the narrative, between February 10 and March 5, the zoo had a footfall of 1,62,142 visitors. This enabled it to generate revenue worth INR 62,68,200 from the entry fees. The entry fee is reportedly INR 50 per person.

The zoo is functional from 9.30 am till 5 pm on all days of the week. In the recent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) budget, the municipal commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal set aside INR 115.46 crore for the zoo.
