The model code of conduct came into effect after Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the Lok Sabha elections which will be held this month. However, there are many who violate the same while campaigning for their candidate and political party. 

In Maharashtra, almost 1,862 people have been caught violating the model code of conduct. The accused have tried to lure the voters by providing them gold jewellery in exchange for votes. Along with this, the voters have been tempted with alcohol and drugs in exchange for a vote.

Along with taking action against the accused, EC seized gold jewellery, drugs, alcohol, cash – material worth of ₹75.79 crore. Sources informed that EC captured ₹19.82 crore cash, ₹38.36 crore worth of gold, ₹13.64 worth of liquor, and ₹3.96 crore worth of drugs.
